Yes — if the rented property and owned property are in different cities, or if you live in the rented property. Claiming both in the same city for the same property is not allowed.
Only Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai are classified as metros for Section 10(13A). All other cities, including Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Pune, use the 40% limit.
Most employers accept a batch of receipts quarterly or at year-end. Check your HR policy — some require submission before December to reflect in Form 16.
