Journey Milestones
Halfway There!
Month 273You paid off 50% of your original loan principal.
Prepay → save interest
Extra money paid against your loan goes straight to principal. This is the only lever that reduces your interest and shortens the loan — it’s what the Interest Saved and Tenure Reduced numbers show.
Invest (SIP) → build wealth
Instead of prepaying, you invest the surplus. Your loan runs its normal course (so this does not save interest), but your corpus grows. When it grows larger than your outstanding loan, you could clear the loan in one shot — that’s Freedom Achieved.
The catch: the same surplus rupee can only be used once — you prepay OR invest (or split it). Prepaying gives a guaranteed saving equal to your loan rate (~8.5%). Investing aims higher (equities have historically returned ~12%) but is not guaranteed. Use the sliders on the left to try different splits and see which gets you to freedom sooner.
Tax Intelligence
How your prepayment strategy interacts with Indian Income Tax.
The Tax Optimization Bonus
While prepaying early reduces your total tax deductions over time, the bank interest you save is exponentially higher than any tax benefit. Don't fall for the 'keep the loan for tax benefits' myth—it's mathematically flawed.
Loan Amortization Schedule
The amortization schedule below details every single payment for your base loan. It breaks down how much of each EMI goes towards the principal versus the interest, and shows your remaining balance over time. Understanding your amortization is key to planning a smart prepayment strategy.
